COVID-19  2020 Camp Updates

Organizing Camp by the Sea 2020 has been a challenge. The health and safety of everyone in our camp community is always our highest priority. With that in mind, we have determined that we cannot currently meet the COVID-19 health, space and safety parameters necessary to operate our full summer camp in a safe and responsible way.

After a careful review of all of the issues, as well as the safety guidelines from the Centers of Disease Control (CDC) and the American Camp Association (ACA), we have come to the decision that we can only safely offer Camp to families with children who are currently enrolled, or recently graduated from our full-year Early Childhood Education Center up to children entering second grade in the fall. This camp will run from July 6 to August 21, 2020. If space permits, we will open to other campers in that age range who had previously signed up for camp. Families will be notified if those spaces become available.

Please know that this decision is as disappointing to us as it is to our camp families. We have been working throughout this crisis, trying to create a physically distanced camp experience that would fall within the guidelines and recommendations. As we considered these guidelines and restrictions the harsh reality became clear. The things we normally take for granted like group games, trips, special events, and so much more could not safely take place this summer and Camp by the Sea would not be the same! More importantly, it cannot be the safe environment that we strive to provide each and every day for the 600 children that call Camp By The Sea home every summer.

What are my options if I already paid a Summer 2020 deposit or tuition?

Based on the changes for the summer of 2020, the JCC incurs a major financial deficit for the fiscal year. Camp by the Sea is a large program at the Katz JCC and this year’s limitations will impose a major financial hardship. If your child is registered and not eligible for this year’s modified camp program, someone from our camp office will contact you with the various options available.

We thank you very much for your patience as we navigate through these uncertain times. We welcome the opportunity to answer any questions or concerns you may have and look forward to bringing our families and campers back to the JCC next summer.
